TIPS FOR VAPING SAFELY DURING THE CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK

It’s a scary time we’re living in. All around the world stores are shutting down, people are staying home, and hundreds of thousands of people are sick. While the coronavirus and vaping share no real relation (vapers are no more likely to get the coronavirus than anyone else), there are a few precautions that you can take to reduce your risk of contracting the virus.

Please share this list of tips for vaping safely during the coronavirus with your friends and family who vape. Some of these tips relate back to the social distancing guidelines that many countries are implementing, while some of them are just good to follow whether there’s a virus outbreak or not.

#1. DON’T SHARE VAPE DEVICES

Many people share their vapes with their friends and family to allow them to try the delicious ejuice they’re vaping on. However, with COVID-19 running rampant, right now is not the time to be sharing. Unless it’s your significant other with whom you live with, it’s not a good idea to share your vape device with anyone.

Because COVID-19 is transmitted from person to person, keep your vape device to yourself to reduce your risk. Similarly, don’t go vaping on someone else’s device. Sticking to this tip is one of the best ways that vapers can reduce their risk.

#2. WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE TOUCHING YOUR VAPES

Washing your hands regularly is a great tip whether you vape or not. But if you’ve gone out in public or been in contact with other people, it’s advisable that you wash your hands before touching your vaping devices. You don’t want to touch your device, wash your hands, and then pick your device back up again. This will contaminate your hands all over again and negate the hand washing that you just did.

#3. AVOID TOUCHING THE DRIP TIP/MOUTHPIECE

If you’re out and about and you need to vape, the last thing you want to do is touch the drip tip or mouthpiece of your device. That’s going to go in your mouth! Best practice is to touch only the body of your device, preferably a part of your vape mod or pod device that is as far away from the drip tip/mouthpiece as possible.

But even if you’re extremely careful and you only touch or hold your device’s body while you’re out and about, the frame could be harboring germs. Which brings us to our next tip…

#4. CLEAN YOUR VAPE DEVICES WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL

This is especially important if you’ve been out of the house and have touched your vape device before washing your hands.

Make sure you wash your hands before cleaning your vape! Use a cotton ball and some isopropyl alcohol to wipe down your devices, including the mouthpiece or drip tip. Allow time for the alcohol to evaporate and you’re ready to safely vape again.

#5. SHOP ONLINE

A lot of brick & mortar vape stores are shutting down, but some remain open. However, most governments are recommending that you don’t leave your house unless absolutely necessary. If you’re out of ejuice right now and need to grab some, it’s okay to run out to the vape shop. But if you can wait a week, buying online is the safest way to go.

#6. DON’T LEAVE YOUR DEVICE OUT AROUND OTHERS

If you have to be around other people, for instance when you’re at work, it’s best not to leave your device out in the open. The reason for this is that germs could be in the air and end up on your device. If you use it afterwards, there’s a chance you can get sick.

Keep your vaping devices in your pocket or bag whenever you’re not using them. Also, make sure that they’re turned off to prevent accidental firing. If your pocket has a zipper, close it. If it’s a bag you’re storing the device in, make sure it’s closed as well.

#7. VAPE A SAFE DISTANCE FROM OTHERS

This tip goes back to the social distancing rules that are being implemented in the U.S, Canada, and other countries around the world. But it also comes down to social etiquette that you should be following even if there wasn’t a coronavirus outbreak.

If you’re vaping around others, make sure that you maintain a safe distance apart. People who aren’t vapers or smokers don’t need to get a cloud of your vapor in their face and those who do might negatively associate that experience with a dislike for vaping.

Do yourself and everyone else a favor — stay away from others when you’re chucking those fat clouds.

#8. AVOID BUYING SECOND-HAND FROM EXCHANGES/FORUMS

This should go without saying; now is not the time to get a sweet deal by purchasing second-hand vaping products. Avoid purchasing used vapes from shops or exchanges/forums like reddit’s /r/ecigclassifieds/.

While it’s true that most people will clean and disinfect their vapes before selling them, it’s a good idea not to take any chances. For now, stick to purchasing new products only from reputable online vape stores.
